Principal Investigator

Marie-Hélène Boudrias, PhD

Dr. Boudrias received her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Kansas Medical Center, before completing post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Oxford and University College London’s Institute of Neurology. The overarching goal of Prof. Boudrias’ research is to identify biomarkers of motor function, and in the longer term, to design subject-specific therapeutic interventions to maintain motor function and/or alleviate age-related declines in motor performance.

Post-Doctoral Fellows

Ga-Young Choi, PhD

Dr. Choi received her Ph.D. in Electronics and Information from Korea University and is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at McGill University. The overarching goal of Dr. Choi’s research is to interpret the various biosignals (e.g., EEG, ECG, fMRI, etc.) using signal processing and machine/deep learning techniques, and develop neurorehabilitation or healthcare applications.

Perrine Ferré, PhD

Dr. Perrine Ferré (MPO, PhD) is a postdoctoral researcher at McGill University’s School of Rehabilitation. She is also Research and Teaching Coordinator at the Villa Medica Rehabilitation Hospital. Her research activities focus on the dialogue between researchers and knowledge users in neurological rehabilitation. She has participated in the development of several clinical tools. Since 2014, she has contributed to teaching at Quebec universities on the themes of implementation sciences, quality of care in rehabilitation, healthy aging and communication disorders.

Graduate Students

Siyu Long

Siyu is obtaining his PhD in McGill University’s Integrated Program in Neuroscience. His research focuses on how transient beta oscillation patterns modulate the motor control based on multimodality (EEG, fMRI, MEG).

Monserrat Casado Sánchez

Monserrat is a PhD candidate in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience at McGill University. Her research focuses on identifying EEG biomarkers of post-COVID-19 condition symptoms to improve understanding and treatment of long COVID. Monserrat holds a Master’s in Cognitive Science and a Bachelor’s in Psychology. Her work is driven by a passion for enhancing patient outcomes through innovative research on neurological conditions.

Xuanteng Yan

Xuanteng is completing her PhD in the Graduate Program of Biological & Biomedical Engineering. Her research primarily focuses on developing algorithms to remove noise from electrophysiological recordings and investigating the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS), on neural oscillations and motor function. In the long term, her goal is to develop novel tools for facilitating motor rehabilitation.

Guofeng Ye

Guofeng is pursuing her PhD in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience. Her research focuses on brain disorders and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, such as TMS and tACS, utilizing neuroimaging tools like MRI and EEG. With a background in Biomedical Engineering, Guofeng is passionate about advancing interventions for brain diseases, particuarly those affecting motor function. In the long term, she aims to become a neuroscientist specializing in the development of innovative and personalized treatments for brain disorders.

Gazal Tareq Bahrawi

Gazal is a PhD candidate at McGill University School of Physical & Occupational Therapy. She is a Saudi citizen, and she is also working as a lecturer of Geriatrics within the Department of Physical Therapy at King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from King Abdul-Aziz University as well as a Master’s of Physical Therapy from New York University. Her main interest in research lies within the area of Geriatrics in general and in the rehabilitation of people with mobility dysfunctions and neurological impairments.

Xinning Le

Xinning is completing a dual MSc degree at McGill University and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). His research focuses on the comparative analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on functional brain networks using spectral graph methods. Through this project, he aims to explore how the pandemic has affected brain function, leveraging advanced neuroimaging techniques and network analysis.

Quanjiang Liu

Quanjiang is completing a dual MSc degree at McGill and UESTC (University of Electronic Science and Technology of China). His master’s project mainly extracts deep brain features from MEG data and uses various neural network methods to analyze the data.

Undergraduate Students and Research Assistants

Kenya Morales Fajardo, MSc

Kenya completed her MSc in Rehabilitation Science under the supervision of Dr. Boudrias in 2023. Today, her research focuses on looking at the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques on neural oscillations of the stroke population. She is actively recruiting participants, collecting EEG & EMG data, and analyzing it to obtain biomarkers relevant to motor function. She also helps current graduate students with their data analyses.

Nathanael Rafinejad

Nathanael is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Social Work at McGill. Funded by an FRQS Undergraduate Research Bursary and a Jane Harris-Van Gelder Award, their qualitative study explores how adults perceive their experience of becoming ill, as well as their satisfaction levels with their formal and informal support systems, including their access to quality public psychosocial services. The study is in collaboration with Prof. Aline Bogossian at UdeM.

Yavuz Shahzad

Yavuz is an undergraduate in the Honours Probability and Statistics program at McGill. He is currently working on a Brain Canada-funded project evaluating the efficacy of a novel therapeutic intervention for those with chronic stroke, and a project characterizing the behavior of beta bursts in those with Long-COVID.
