Christmas party!
We wrapped up the year with a wonderful Holiday celebration filled with delicious food, laughter, and great company. Our Principal Investigator treated us to an amazing homemade dinner, while lab members brought tasty side dishes and lots of desserts (five, to be exact!). It was such a lovely evening to come together, relax, and celebrate everyone’s accomplishments over the past year. We’re grateful for this team and all the moments we get to share—inside and outside the lab.
We wish everyone a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!

Congratulations to Dr. Monserrat Casado!
We are thrilled to celebrate Dr. Monserrat Casado, who has officially earned her PhD after successfully defending her thesis titled “Identifying EEG-Based Biomarkers of Long-COVID.”
Her dedication, perseverance, and impactful research have greatly contributed to advancing our understanding of how Long-COVID affects the brain. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and wish her all the best as she embarks on the next chapter of her career. The future is bright!

Congratulations to former lab member Rukiye Karakiş!
She presented her work titled “Attention-Based Multimodal Deep Learning Model for Post-Stroke Motor Impairment Prediction” at the 28th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2025) held in Daejeon, South Korea.
Rukiye delivered an oral presentation during the CLINICCAI Session and also showcased her research in a poster presentation.
We are very proud to see her representing our lab on the international stage and contributing to advancements in neurorehabilitation research!

Kudos to PhD student Guofeng Ye!
She presented her poster “Effects of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS) on Beta Oscillations During Hand Movement in Stroke Individuals” at the Integrated Program in Neuroscience (IPN) Retreat held at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI).
Her findings show that brain stimulation can restore motor brain patterns after stroke—an exciting step forward for neurorehabilitation research.

Huge congratulations to Xuanteng Yan!
Yesterday, Xuanteng successfully defended her PhD and officially earned her doctoral degree. We are beyond proud of her remarkable achievement and thrilled to celebrate this important milestone alongside lab members, committee members, and supervisors.
Xuanteng’s dedication, perseverance, and passion for research have been inspiring, and we can’t wait to see all the wonderful things she will accomplish in the future.

We’re thrilled to share that PhantasiAI is one of the winners of this year’s McGill Clinical Innovation Competition (CLIC)!
Led by Roberto Felipe Salamanca-Giron, who aims to restore motor function in children with cerebral palsy, stroke, or spinal cord injuries through personalized AI-driven neurostimulation. The project has been awarded the Pediatrics Clinical Innovation Prize and is launching a pilot feasibility study in collaboration with our very own Prof. Marie-Hélène Boudrias this fall.

Our lab’s Principal Investigator was recently featured in a McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences article discussing her leadership in the fight against Long COVID.
As a neuroimaging and rehabilitation expert, she plays a key role in a provincial network of clinics aiming to better understand, track, and treat Long COVID.

We’re proud to share that our PhD student Monse Casado Sánchez presented her poster titled “Electroencephalography Markers of Brain Function in Post COVID-19 Condition” at the 15th World Congress on Brain Injury, held in March 2025 in Montréal, Canada. Co-authored with Dr. C. Duclos and Dr. M.H. Boudrias, this work highlights innovative research using EEG to investigate changes in brain function among individuals experiencing post-COVID-19 condition. Congratulations to Monse and the team for contributing to this vital area of research!

Monserrat presented her poster titled “Unraveling Altered Brain Function in Post-COVID-19 Condition Through Electroencephalography”, showcasing our lab’s cutting-edge research on the effects of COVID-19 on brain function. She was honored with the Trainee Professional Development Award! We are incredibly proud of her achievements and contributions to advancing neuroscience research.

We are thrilled to announce that a team of students supervised by Prof. Marie-Hélène Boudrias and led by Ms. Barbara Chalifoux achieved 2nd Place in the Martin Theater Award for their oral presentation in August 2024. The team’s project focused on the “Identification of Common Clinical and Demographic Factors in Horizontal Semicircular Canal (HSC) Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) in Stroke Individuals Complaining of Dizziness.” Congratulations to team members Richard Xiao, Elizabeth Messier, and Melanie Pham.

We are excited to share that our postdoctoral researcher, Perrine Ferré, was recently honored at the “Mon projet en 180 secondes” competition, which took place during the SSA Québec Management Assembly. Perrine’s presentation, “Lessons Learned in Our Rehabilitation Settings During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Preparing for the Next Time”, earned her the Best Science Communication Award.

Our Master’s student, Palak Vakil, recently presented her poster titled “Concerted Study of the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Rehabilitation Outcomes and Services of Post-Stroke Users in the Province of Québec” at the 5e congrès de recherche en adaptation-réadaptation (REPAR). Palak’s research sheds light on the significant effects the pandemic has had on rehabilitation services for post-stroke patients in Québec. We commend her for her dedication to advancing rehabilitation research and for representing our lab at such a prestigious event!
